Montessori for your child

The Montessori method is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood.

This method is the life’s work of Dr. Maria Montessori, the first woman Italian physician who graduated from the University of Rome in 1898.  Montessori’s method has been used for over 100 years in many parts of the world.

The Montessori method views the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It attempts to develop children physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively.

Montessori believed, and modern research has confirmed, that the period from birth to six years is the most critical for sensitivity to learning.  Using her “absorbent mind,” the young child takes in her world with great ease.  The clearest example of this absorbent mind is the child’s explosion into speech without any obvious teacher except himself.  We build upon this love and ease of learning by providing hundreds of kinds of learning materials for her eyes, hands, and brain to work together as her teacher.

Montessori principles include:

  • Prepared Environment
  • Sensitive Periods
  • Teacher as Guide
  • Follow the Child
  • Independence
