Mission

Montessori Plus of Olathe is a progressive school for children aged 3 – 6 years old that provides quality care and facilitates growth in a loving and safe setting where children can develop spiritually as they grow emotionally, physically, cognitively and socially.  Our mission is to offer a nature-inspired Montessori education that allows young children to develop creativity, independence, self-confidence, and innovative thinking.

In our home and natural outdoor environment teachers and students create experiences that arouse curiosity, stretch muscles, strengthen initiative, and stimulate questions.  Through careful observation and guidance, we help the children to know themselves, to delight in the freedom to learn, and to understand their opportunities and responsibilities in our community and the world.

Christian Activities

Montessori Plus of Olathe is committed to the development of the “whole” child:  spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical.  The “Plus” in our school name refers to the inclusion of Christian teachings in our Montessori classroom.  Maria Montessori was raised in the Catholic faith.  The more she worked with children, the more she saw the creative presence of God within them.  In her final view while in her late 70s, Montessori declared, “This force that we call love is the greatest energy of the universe. But I am using an inadequate expression, for it is more than an energy: it is creation itself. I should put it better if I were to say: ‘God is love’.”

Montessori Plus School teachers aim to follow the standard of Jesus Christ who said, “Do to others as you would have them to do to you.”  We use activities and opportunities throughout the day to emphasize God’s love, acceptance, and concern for each child and adult.  These might include

  • Singing Christian songs
  • Telling stories from the Bible, usually with miniature figures.
  • Praying at circle time for children or teachers who are ill, and for other requests of the children.
  • Teaching Silence
  • Celebrating the Christian foundation for the holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter

The children are free to choose a tray of figures from a Bible story and to use it during their work time. No child, however, is required to use these lessons or to share or pray at circle.
